Paper Description
This paper aims to promote a critical and innovative understanding of the role of science, technology and analytics for informing best practice exercise prescription within the wellness, fitness and sporting industries. Students will explore both the mechanistic and applied aspects of how various technologies combined with aspects of sport science are used to develop both effective exercise interventions and recovery options. Students will also critically explore strategies and tools for monitoring individuals wellness, fitness, performance and physiological changes against established norms, benchmark targets and safety thresholds.
Paper Structure
The timetable for the lectures, workshops, and laboratory classes is outlined briefly below but please consult Moodle for all details about the lecture and laboratory timetable and venues.
The lectures will be face-to-face and recorded in Panopto. The lectures will involve examination of educational material and critical discussions so it is recommended where possible that students attend the face-to-face lectures.
Students can choose to attend one of the workshops timetabled for either Wednesday 11-12 pm or Wednesday 3-4 pm. The 11-12 pm workshop will be face-to-face while the 3-4 pm workshop will be online via Zoom.
Students will sign up for either the Monday 9:00-11:00, Friday 11:00-13:00, or Friday 13:00-15:00 laboratory in the first weeks of the course. There are no facilities for recording laboratories which will be held at the Uni-Rec Centre, Uni Field, and Avanti-Velodrome, so students who can't attend the face-to-face laboratory classes will need to keep up to date by completing alternative laboratory tasks which will be made available in Moodle.
